Dakota Hi-5 Classroom Update

March 16th, 2011 by Allison

We are going to Porky’s Sugar Bush Camp on Tuesday the 29th! We are very excited to go, and we need parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to come with us and help! If you want to come call our parent coordinator Estelle LaPointe at 612-272-7841 and let us know, we would love to have you. The Hi-5 Ojibwe class is also going, and they would also love volunteers. If you would like to come with, call the Ojibwe class parent coordinator Kim Beaulieu at 612-423-6558.

Last year after we took our class to Porky’s Sugar Bush Camp we had them paint a picture of the camp, here is one example from last year:

We are looking forward to doing the project with our class again this year, and will post examples as soon as we have them.

Dakota Hi-5 classroom update

March 9th, 2011 by Allison

In the Dakota Hi-5 class we have started talking about cahansan ozupi kin, the sugar bush. Today in class we talked about the foods we like to eat made out of maple sugar, or what we like to put maple syrup on. One of our students drew a picture of aguyapi zipzipeda k’a pangizizi, pancakes and carrots, which he says he likes to eat with maple syrup! Along with talking about sugar bush in class we hope to get to go on a field trip to a sugar bush camp!

Anishinabe Dakota Kindergarten Activity

February 23rd, 2011 by Cassandra

In addition to working in the High-5 class, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning Allison and Cassandra work with the Kindergartners in Mr. Paul’s class at Anishinabe Academy. After talking about weather and feelings, the Kindergartners did a worksheet about how they feel when it rains. They wrote out their feeling and drew a picture to go with it.

Here are some examples of their work. See if you can figure out how they feel when it rains.

In Dakota- When it rains, I will be happy.

In Dakota- When it rains, I will be angry.

In Dakota- When it rains, I will be fine.
