February 23rd, 2011 by Margaret BoyerMargaret gave her one-year notice to AECP’s Board of Directors last May 2010. She has decided to move back to Pennsylvania to grow potatoes, strawberries, sweet corn, and oats. She will also be working on issues that “small family farms” are struggling with. She plans on monthly visits back to Minnesota to continue with some of her project work and visiting friends and family.
New Executive Director Hired for Wicoie Nandagikendan
February 23rd, 2011 by Margaret BoyerLaurie Harper, a member of Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, has been hired to replace Margaret Boyer, who will be moving back to Pennsylvania to work on farm issues. Laurie brings great early childhood and language immersion experience to the program. She is excited to work with the talented Wicoie Nandagikendan staff working in the Ojibwe and Dakota immersion rooms. Her skills and knowledge will take Wicoie Nandagikendan to the next level.
St. Thomas Teacher Licensure and Masters of Education Co-hort
February 23rd, 2011 by Betty JaneBeginning Monday, February 28, 2011, a co-hort of 20 students (including staff of Wicoie Nandagikendan) will begin their Masters of Education journey with St. Thomas University. The cadre of 20 students will also be acquiring their K-6 teacher licensure for teaching in Dakota and Ojibwe immersion setting. The on-going professional development of staff is integral to the creation and maintenance of a healthy immersion setting. Congratulations Wicoie Nandagikendan and St. Thomas University on the development of this much needed educational and licensure opportunity for the Urban area.
